street photography Saint Petersburg

Second part about my street photography in St. Petersburg in my last trip in Russia in February 2020. Also in this series a small collection of magic moment in the streets. From lovers to kindness between a father and his daughter, humorism, a rainy day… I really love to do street photography in St. Petersburg. City is big, streets are enormous and full of different and particular people. There are a lot of interesting situations; I imagine what could be this place when is covered in snow. I was happy to do street photography also in museum (The Ermitage), perfect place to take pictures of different moments.

Street photography St. Petersburg – Part 2

A dualism between two couples of lovers in the museum.

A funny moment in the street along Nevski Prospect. A man is looking at Freddie Mercury’s statue; it looks like they are talking like good and old friends.

A sad moment in front of train station.

A picture taken with flash during a rainy day, I like the woman’s pose and expression.

Another sad moment, I love to photograph this scene in the streets.

Also the following two photos of this small series are taken with flash. I rarely use flash in the streets but I love it really much. To me it’s yet a bit difficult to photograph strangers with flash. I have less problems if I am a tourist like in this occasion, it’s one of my mental issue in doing street photography.

The last picture is one of my favorite in this second small series. A kind moment between a father and his daughter; she laughs, look at his father and hugs him at the same time. In the background there is a Rembrandt’s masterpiece: The prodigal son; basically it is another kind of hug between a father and his son, in contrast with the one in the foreground of the image. I like also that people are looking at the painting while father and daughter are looking at each other, they don’t care about other persons and Rembrandt’s works. I like the light and the beautiful contrast between reds and greens: two complementary colors.
