Russia photoblog travel part 2 – The adventure started in Moscow. But the day after we immediately took a train for the next destination: Jaroslavl’, the biggest city of the golden ring. The most funny and nice aspect of this second day was the trip by train; slow but at the same time particular and full of photographic ideas (like people and wagons interiors). I met a “new friend” during lunch, he was a bit drank; he spoke only Russian but he was funny and friendly at the same time. I started to drink some vodka and cognac with him and I’ve taken some candid portrait with my cameras.
A selfie with my new russian friend.
Jaroslavl’ is really interesting for his architectures, so different from italian style. The first day was really cold (about -5 Celsius) and it snowed a bit during the day. I haven’t post here touristic photos of the place taken with smartphone. The church icons recur often in the Jaroslavl’ cityscape.
Alimentary markets are interesting places to take some pictures. They use to expose pieces of meet on the table without ice or any other protection. I’ve even bought quality black caviar (small box about 50 euros!). Interesting characters in the market shops, many of these agreed for a portrait.
Near the center of the city you can watch ruined and abandoned houses like this. I’ve found this thing also in other cities of the golden ring.
The following picture is one of the best of this series. This is a bridge covered by snow, this man was going with his son to an outdoor playground which was almost deserted; with snow it was a really sad place in my opinion. Solitude, silence, cold, snow… This bridge was over the Volga river, iced in that period of the year.
Other pics with details in Jaroslavl’.
We spent one night in Jaroslavl’, then we reached the next destination Rostov Velickij by taxi (about 50-60 Km far away), a small town of the golden ring. This place is really strange; the center, near the Cremlino, looks like a Far West village covered in snow. There is also a beautiful and great orthodox monastery in front of an iced lake about 2 kms from the centre. Some streets in Rostov seem to be outside space and time especially in winter season. This is absolutely my favorite location visited in golden ring during this trip. Here I’ve found a lot of ruined architectures, more than Jarsolavl’.
A drank and intrusive man kicked out of the shop, I was just arrived in the city and it was early morning, about 10:30 AM.
Some images taken at the iced lake, you can see also fishermen on the snow. I’ve not post-produced images below (except the last one in bw).
I’ve watched also the orthodox rite inside churches but I’ve used other cameras to take some pictures so I haven’t images with smartphone for this blog post. The experience was awesome, it is a rite so different by the catholic one.
So with this blog post about my travel in Russia 5 days have passed by the departure from Rome. In the next one I’ll talk about other wonderful destinations of Russian golden ring. Stay tuned.
That’s all folks
Stay well, have always light in your life
Best, F.S
