I had another article in mind for my blog, but the sudden death of the master David Lynch compels me to dedicate an article to him. Unfortunatly he has passed away on 15 january 2025, after declaring, this summer, he was sick, he had a terrible emphysema.
Director, sometimes actor, writer, musician, painter, and even photographer. David Lynch was an artist in the true sense of the word. This great master has undoubtedly influenced the more surreal and absurd side of my street photography.

But If I’m writing this article, it’s because I love his movies. In particular, my favorites are Twin Peaks (first two seasons), spin-off Twin peaks Fire walk with me, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and The Elephant Man (a film that truly made me cry at the end).
I love the overall mood of his set designs, the suspense, the crazy and grotesque characters, the absurd and surreal situations, the scenography and color palette, and those complex visual metaphors that express simple concepts. He’s not a director for everyone, he’s not my favorite one, and perhaps it’s not even the style I adore the most. But he has certainly left a significant impact on me.
Book reccomandations:
First of all if you don’t know his movies go and watch Twin Peaks at first, then other titles. After that start to study also his photography and art. I suggest two books:
- Recently I bought a small photographic book with pictures taken by David Lynch. Unfortunatly this book is expensive: David Lynch The factory photographs. Inside wonderful black adn white shots of abandoned factories (does anyone think of anything about Twin peaks?). Photographs were taken between 1980 and 2000: Berlin, New York, Polland, England, New Jersey, Los Angeles.
- If you like a more crazy and artistic book I suggest “David Lynch: someone is in my house“.
Conclusions
I like to close this article in honor of David Lynch with this wonderful screenshot. Love you David, hope you stay well wherever you are.

That’s all folks
Stay well, have always light in your life
Best, F.S.
