Dune part two – Review

Dune part two review

Finally it’s time to watch the second part of Dune directed by talented Denis Villeneuve. I went to Italian press preview few weeks ago and this is my (quick) Dune part two review. Movie is stunning, probably the best sci-fi of the last two decades. A dark story, dark characters as in the stunning Frank Herbert‘s original book. Villeneuve created a colossal movie after the unlucky (but wonderful) Blade Runner 2049. Dune part two is overwhelming, full of emotion and epic moments. Aesthetically the movie is stunning, but as important as visual effects we have the sound (soundtrack included), so rich in wonderfull basses and reverberations. This is the perfect conclusion after Dune part one.

The Canadian director created a good adaptation of the original Herbert’s novel. But mostly in this second part there are many different events from the books, I hope reader will understand and forgive that (like I did myself). Dune – par two is epic, visually exciting and flawless, perfect in sound and in Hans Zimmer‘s soundtrack. Great cast also with Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem who acted also in the first movie. For this second part Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, and Souheila Yacoub join the “troop”. Yes cast is enormous and full of great cinema stars.

What I don’t like is probably the final part; Villeneuve try to tell to much things together and the script becomes fast and hasty. Too much events and little plying time for the final battle, 15-20 minutes more would have been perfect. But that was the difficult thing, the adaptation of the book (master as David Lynch failed in doing that).

When I’m writing this review Dune Part two scored exactly 93% in rotten tomatoes according to 347 reviews, while the audience score is 95% (ndr. The fellowship of the ring by Peter Jackson has 91% with 253 critic reviews), while on IMDB vote is 9/10.

Personally my final vote is 9/10; it’s an epic, stunning dark sci-fi movie. You can read my review (Italian language) here. A movie made for cinema, perfect in Imax.

That’s all folks

Stay well, have always light in your life

Best, F.S
