I want to share something new with you. Something I might call a life project though even calling it a “project” gives it a kind of weight in terms of research and complexity that I’m not really aiming for. This is probably the beginning of a series, split into multiple parts, of photographic pictures, mostly taken with an analogue camera. I try to document my everyday life at work, in the car, or at home. It doesn’t really matter where and why, it’s just life, my life
Maybe I can consider a part of that collection as street photography in the sense that I take pictures of the everyday, spontaneous and unfiltered. I find that film it’s the perfect tool to this kind of storytelling. It adds that extra layer, a real sense of emotion.
This collection of pictures (the whole “project”) is definitely personal , made of images that in such way step into my private life. But of course I’ll also include some more classic street photography, since that’s part of my life too. I don’t have a clear goal in my mind. I scan that roll today and looking to these pictures and I thought that it would be nice create more blos posts about my everyday life.
Just snapshots
I don’t really know where this is going and actually I’dont care; maybe the only real intent behind this sort of project is to create a kind of story made up of disconnected images that, when seen together, form a picture of life, of the everyday: my reality. There are lots of simple moments, not necessarily unique ones. In fact, they’re mostly repeatable, ordinary things and that’s exactly where the magic lies. These are just snapshots, most of time spontaneous. My primary inspiration is Daido Moriyama and a small book i told you few years ago.
In this first part I uploaded some random shots from 2024–2025, it is the same roll, a Kentmere 400 black and white film. I used a simple point-and-shoot camera (I can’t quite remember if it was an Olympus mju-II, a Yashica T3, or a Yashica Minitec). I can’t explain why there is a gap between June 2024 and April 2025 on the same roll. I suspect that the developlment laboratory have mixed cuts of different rolls.
Roll 1 – Kentmere 400
So as i said before in this first part images are taken between 2024-2025, in Italy, mostly in Rome. I’ve selected few shots avoiding to upload the whole roll. I don’t konw if it has any sense to explain each picture. By the way in that first article I want to explain better what I have photgraphed showing you my thoughts (but maybe is it just better to show without commenting?).

Ok picture number one, Camilla, my wonderful daughter behind the curtain in my house. She loves playing in this way and I am happy to shoot surreal pictures like this one. It’s an exercise of surrealism indeed, something that remind me to Magritte. I’ve different pictures like this one, i love this kind of subject even if not at all original.

The second image shares another daily moment. The road I take to go to the work. I love shots taken inside a car on the road but I know sometimes It’s really dangerous if the photographer and the driver are the same person. In that case I was in front of a red light, safe.

Simply a wall near my parents’ house. I love thextures and the shadows/lights over it.

At work (I’m a doctor), a colleague of mine. I hate when I take pictures of him. I like the silhouette effect and the low light inside the room

Wonderfull Camilla’s new shoes. I think that shot it’s a bit weird and disturbing at the same time. It looks like a crime scene with the evidence secured and the fact that the shoes are my daughter’s bothers me a lot but this is the photo and this is what subconsciously struck me about the scene.

Easter day. Relax time. I like that picture in black and white but probably colors works better in a situation like that one. The green can create the sense of relaxation while the colored sweather helps to recognize better the main subject from the background. But here no color, I like as it is.

I don’t like that kind of dish but i love that subject. It reminds me of a crude and caustic shot by master Daido Moriyama with fish head. This is how a master influence work on my mind. The imitation process, something important to learn and to growth before finding a personal and unique way. That is the link to the wonderful picture I’m referring to.

What we have here! A peluche, a finished coffee and… of course insulin!

In that shot the presence-absence of a human being using his clothes. I like the light, it’s mystical.
By the way this is the end of that first part. Hope you enjoy the process and the Idea behind. I’ll post other article like this one, not on cronological order. Feel free to reach me with critics or any kind of comments.
Love you.
That’s all folks
Stay well, have always light in your life
Best, F.S.
